Guns and Knives! (strange sights continued)

We went home by a different route the other night; a change of scenery.  There I was letting it all flow past when suddenly my head swiveled.  Guns and knives!  ...a shop window full of the killingest equipment you guys can think up.

I know what guns are; I watch TV.
One human holds the gun up at arm’s length, there’s a loud noise, another human falls down and there‘s lots of blood.

It’s a whole lot less personal than a fang to the carotid.

We cats get accused of wanton acts of wildlife desecration, and I also accept we make a lot of noise and do a lot of posturing when we come into conflict with one another.  Between ourselves there are a few ripped ears and the odd bite mark, but we never actually kill each other.

And as for the wildlife, rumours of our killing sprees are vastly over-estimated.  You have kept us around your civilizations for millennia for just that purpose, to keep under control populations of wildlife you deem to be vermin.

How are we supposed to be able to tell the difference between small furry animals you hate and small furry animals you love?  Or keep up with your caprice?  A small furry animal you hate can suddenly become a small furry animal you love simply because you have poisoned off too many of them or completely destroyed their habitats, and they are no longer in abundance.

I can’t help thinking that if humans had to bite their prey to death, a whole lot more of you would be vegetarians, and a whole lot fewer of you would die in random acts of violence.

Peace and love brother; peace and love.

  1. Well said. I'm sure all your bros around here would agree.
Lucky you're one of those small furry animals that humans seem to love, even if they think you're a d-o-g.

Hunting is allowed on our island only for a very short period but often we hear gun shots at dusk. It used to unnerve me but I've got used to the sudden booms now. At least here the guns are pointed at fellow humans but they so easily could be in a moment of anger.

    Dear Tigger,
Hello from Scotland from an ex-pat Aussie, by way of India!!! I have seen your comments on Angus and Sophie's blog and looked you up. I like your blog very much so have 'signed up' &*>

It makes me shudder that you can so easily see these weapons. With what is happening in the world just now, it seems especially disturbing. You are so right about humans!

Now you will see my funny signature... but you should know that I am 'aunty' to all pets in Blogville (and have had the great good fortune of meeting several of them in the furs! And their humans, of course...) Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx

(pee ess - should you wish to look me up, I have a wordy and eclectic blog, a daily photo blog, and a spiritual philosophy blog (though the latter is dormant this year. You know, things happened...)

  3. Hello and welcome. I think we have seen Aunty Yam's comments too. F is just beginning to explore the blogosphere. She did a little a few years ago when we had bees in our backyard and we followed beekeeper blogs for some insight. These days she is just reading to me for interest, views, a few signposts to out of the way places, and evidence of ordinary lives being lived. The 'news' is full of such extraordinary stuff. We will certainly look you up too.
