F was licking something off a spoon, delicately, a bit like licking a lollipop.
I followed her around and insisted that she show me. I absolutely have to inspect all human food. Some of it might be interesting.
Gullible mug that she is, she heard somewhere that topping up your B Vitamins helps keep the biting insects at bay. I suspect it would be more effective if she smeared it on - that'd keep anything away.
Apparently it does work with the bugs but you need to eat a little every day. It is probably the smell that keeps them away! And yes, Tigger, some human-food is not for you :)
ReplyDeleteYou sure that's not just a clever marketing ploy that has become part of the kiwi common psyche?
ReplyDeleteI have never heard about it being insect repellent. That explains why all those little vegemite kids are so happy. Itchy. bitey free. Tell F she'll be happier with autan on her legs and sanitarium marmite on her toast. We've got a bit o both in our cupboards. Still can't really see the difference , but, someone did bring us some salt reduced vegemite and I'm sorry to say that was the best of all. Tell F to do a search. You never know, it might be a Tigger taste treat as well
ReplyDeleteWe do have Marmite in the cupboard - that's Mr B's poison. F did put tacky brown stuff on her toast until she gave up on toast. Nothing wrong with toast she says but there are so many other really good things to eat as well that there isn't enough eating capacity in a day to fit it all in.

ReplyDeleteVit B1 is considered useful repellent - but... While the usual daily recommendation for thiamin (B1) is 1.1 to 1.2 milligrams a day for women and men respectively, the doses given to protect against mosquitos is around 300 milligrams a day. That's quite a lot of the ol' vego!!! (Meanwhile, Tigger, I actually drooled. I needs to get hold of some that yummalischusness!) I know. Crazy wummin, right? Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
F says 'not crazy', but reckons a big jar of vego a day is probably not do-able just to keep mozzies away - even if the vego was in plentiful supply. You'd probably die of salt poisoning first. You can get Vegemite in UK ...only little jars tho. F smuggles it in from Downunder in 1kg jars! Furrings and purrings to you. Mr T.
DeleteYes it works!
ReplyDeleteWhich is great for me as I love it on toast with lots of butter. Yummmmm
Just scrap a little on a piece of toast and you will start to like it and slowly you will start to add more
Comfort food for F. The problem is when she feels like vegemite toast we inevitably don't have good toasting bread around. So it's vegemite sandwich - Men at Work.
DeleteI like vegemite and would prefer it instead of marmite, just a smear on some hot toast, perfect.
ReplyDeleteAmy - all those vegemite toast comments must have triggered something - I spotted F eating hot buttered vegemite toast in the weekend.
