This mess on our dining room floor is apparently a kitemaking project. Greece has a kite-flying day sometime in March so it might be in preparation for that.
It is also an endeavour to use up stuff stored in boxes, so nothing will match, contrast appropriately, or make a really impressive air display. I'm guessing we will be lucky if it even flies, but I will reserve my scathing review for the day they try it.A couple of days ago, a bloke flew his kite across the cove (and back again), sitting underneath it with a powered-up lawn-mower on his back. F was swimming at the time and I'm hopeless at camera phones (they require opposable thumbs) so no photo.
That's clever though isn't it - flying your kite without having your feet on the ground?
K used to make all the kites for the grandchildren. Kite flying day is on Clean Monday, beginning of Lent. Heaven knows why it's a kite day but some still enjoy it. Not with a lawn mower on their backs. Last year the kite was pulled by young child on electric skate board. Very effective
ReplyDeleteThe local beach gets (got) totally crowded ever year. Not so many in our cove. The skateboard idea sounds like a runner. We'd need the road closed tho.
DeleteI’m sure it’s going to be spectacular when it’s done
ReplyDeleteHaven’t flown a kite since my children were very small
One down, two to go. The next one is a scaled test run for a pattern Mr B drew out for a sled kite that is about 5 feet high and nearly the same across. Look up sled kite patterns online Angela, easy to make and some fun to have with your granddaughters. (These are in hope of Mr Bs grandchildren getting out here sometime this year......)

ReplyDeleteGracious, that would have been a sight! Hope it isn't giving Mr B... or F... any ideas beyond putting together the patchwork quilt - errrr - kite for standard flying?!!! Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
Powered paragliding is not on the agenda for any time soon. Mr B wants to try kite-surfing tho! (There had to be water involved.) F's & P's Mr T
