Hats for Seafarers

As if the box in the corner didn't already hold enough knitting projects....

At least its lid closes now so she has knitted down the stash quite considerably.  However F's work has a knitting club. Given that everyone is working from home it is something of a stretch to call a ZOOM meeting at which everyone is apparently doing their knitting a 'club'.

However,  in order to give themselves small achievable targets (for the new knitters), something to consider outside of each of their individually diminishing spheres,  create a sense of common cause, and because seafaring and shipping is what their business is all about, they set themselves a challenge to knit hats for Missions to Seafarers and Stella Maris.

I guess it gives the group something to talk about that isn't their plague and all things connected to it.

I like knitting. F sits down to knit and now that the weather is cooler, I can sit on her while she knits. She tells me there is quite a bit of science now that has shown how good knitting is for brain health and stress-busting and stuff. It's sort of like meditation.

Meditating is something that cats are very good at. Humans could take a lot of lessons from us on quiet contemplation and mental housekeeping....

Meditation Pose

Having a purring cat sit on you is good for you too, you know....

  1. i thought finally, a Doctor i could see with out cost and I do need mental help. then I realized there is a LOT OF WATER between me and you, Doc Tigger.. we agree 100 % that a furry animal on the lap is medicine, unless of course said furry animal weighs 80 lbs. 36 K to you guys.. I compromise and hold just his head in the lap... stroking furs is a meditation of sorts... good job on the caps for the sailors. I once walked past a room full of about 10 ladies and a coulpe of men, all knitting like mad, and their jaws were working and the sound of talking was every where and I wondered how they could count stitches and talk at the same time

    1. There are men in the work knitting club. Most men think its embarrassing but lots of them would engage in building model stuff if invited to do so. It's mostly men who make and mend fishing nets in fizhing communities around the world., so what's the real difference?

Oh yes, all excellent medicines - giving, keeping hands and mind busy, and intimate contact with furs. Well done Dr T - now, about insomnia... hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx

    1. I can help with insomnia - choose one of your beds, close your eyes, sleep. A short purring session between closed eyes and sleep might help. Having Goldilocks temperature helps a lot which might require one to rearrange the nearby humans a bit or even several times in the course of the sleep session. Oh, and roll over at regular intervsls to ensure your blood remains evenly circulated.

    1. Strangely that moving yarn has never been 'my bag'. I just like the fact it means sitting still for a while.

  4. ok I have to say belonging to a knitting club imho is pretty cool. I am a crochet-er and sorely need to get back into it.

  5. I love knitting, or crocheting with a fur baby on my lap
All fur babies learn very quickly not to touch mummy’s yarn
Best antidepressant ever and the only side effect is lots of lovely new things to give away and enjoy
