Wooly Boots

F set off early and I watched her walk out of sight stage left...

She was back about 4 hours later coming from the other direction. There was a brief refuelling and a change of shoes and she set off again.  The second leg didn't take as long and by 1300 she was home changing into swimming clothes and telling me she had walked 30 kilometers.

Why?

Why would you do that?

It seems her London colleagues are going to walk over every Thames bridge in London on 24 June, probably as a charity fundraiser. F always participated in their challenges (3 Peaks, South Downs Way, London to Brighton bike ride, 100 km Thames Path walk...) and they have invited her to this one.

She can't leave me.

She can't take me with her.

She offered to do a 'walk in support' over here, and then, thinking about it, decided walking 30 km on June 24 would be a recipe for heat stroke. Today hasn't been cool, but the weather is unlikely to get cooler between now and September, so she charged out early  today and ripped off 30km (then went and soaked herself in seawater).

Now she's worried it was meant to be 30 miles.....

I'm pinning her legs down now to make her take dictation for my blog post.

She's wearing wooly boots on a hot day. She always wears wooly boots after she has been walking a long way. She says it makes her feet feel better. Weird.

I totally get the wooly footings, Tigger dear. We ladies of a certain age get our comforts where we can. Mind you - the challenge for me is 300 metres, never mind 30000 of them! (And I think most charity events here use kms, so F is not to fret on that one...) Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx

    1. She should have researched the London Bridge Hike first - it IS 30 miles. Then a sensible thing to do would have been to set off at sundown. It is getting so hot here now that she won't be giving it a second go.

    3. Silly woman is beginning to wonder whether she might do an overnighter in a couple of weeks time. Clearly her feet didn't hurt her enough after this one - which she could just call a practice run!

  2. wow, that is a lot of walking and swimming, no wonder you have to hold her legs down to keep her still for a while. i see you chose the shade as opposed to the bright sunshine. The plants are looking almost as good as you do Tigger... glad she is not leaving you since you can't go with her... good choice MOM

    1. I watched her in the sea. She wasn't swimming, just floating on top sort of soaking. The flowers are nearly gone from our plants. It is getting too hot for them now.

    1. F would live in bare feet or sheepskin boots if left to her own devices.

  5. Congratulations F on walking 30 kms. I walked nearly 7 miles around Edinburgh the other day and that was more than enough for me.

    1. 7 km is a long way on a normal day. Heat didn't help much.

    1. Strange you say that because they have what we call 4WD soles - which is strange on things a human wears for slippers.

You did very well to walk 30 kilometres I’d collapse just going three at the moment
I do want to walk again and build back up to where I was before
    Hopefully I can

  9. I'm glad F didn't try to get you to walk with her Tigger - I don't think your little paws would have stood that distance. Actually, I don't think my feet would stand that distance either! Mxx

    1. I would only go if Donkey went along. My wee paws could handle that.

  10. Tigger, you’ve just reminded me I need to find some new Ugg boots before it gets much colder. ‘In my day’ I could have matched F stride for stride….these days I can match you snooze for snooze! See couch, will snooze😊

  11. Cathy - you would probably out stride her - she isn't very fast. And the sofa had certain attractions this weekend.

  12. I'm one of those people who loves my ugg/wooly boots, it's gradually coming into Winter here so no doubt they will be in use more.
