Big Bag of Yarn

We have been stash busting since before we went to Greece.  We started stash-busting in earnest during the lockdowns of the COVID years.  Stash in the sewing department was reduced markedly, and attention was turned to the stash in the yarn department.  F has nearly used up all the 'pullover' quantities of yarn and was looking for projects that use up oddments - projects that she can carry about with her.

You will have seen some of the multi-coloured hats (with ears) in an earlier post - well the count of those is up to 14, with another 3 or so planned from what remains.  Here are some more...

She says we are onto the boring ones - the ones that have grey or brown as their base colour.

Recently one of her work (and crafting) colleagues died suddenly, leaving a large stash of knitting yarn at the office; yarn she had stashed at work to run a knitting club.  Knitting clubs were apparently popular with people looking for lockdown occupations.  Interest has waned and the bag languished in a filing cupboard.  Her family doesn't want it and in fact they are looking for a home for an 'under-stairs cupboard full' of crafting materials.

I told her to look the other way, but did she?  Would she?  What do you think?

So now she is planning some crocheted slippers (pattern here if you can fight your way through the adverts), some baby blankets (because the suitable yarn is acrylic, therefore machine washable, and in colours that suggest baby stuff), and a lot more hats for seafarers for next winter.  I am wondering whether there are enough hours in a week to fit all this in..........alongside the hours necessarily consumed attending to my whims.

My whims are the most important things in the world.  I don't even want to think about the contents of the 'under-stairs cupboard'.

  2. Tigger, I find it hard to believe that F has time to attend to all your whims AND knit all those hats. Not to mention work, allotment, DIY etc. etc. She is awesome.

    1. She spends a lot of time commuting Nobby. I insist she puts that time to good use, so that time at home can be spent with me. paw smacks Mr T

  3. ummmm.... that photo might have been taken when the weather was cooler (cold in fact). Mr B uses a hot wheat bag for his hip and I get the dregs of its warmth when he casts it aside. People do carry stuff off around here but it is a good idea not to encourage them!

Tigger mate, I think that F may be something of a post cause when faced with such offerings... And I confess, I am rather of similar mind. As long as all your needs are attended, there is no room for complaint, I fear! Hugs and whiskeries YAM-aunty xxx

    1. This from the woman who seems to be able to knit a pair of socks in a day and still find time for weaving, cooking, drawing and blogging.... and her neighbours. Your are an inspiration.

  6. this is perfect to keep hands busy, for survival skills, for the people who will benefit from all the creations. Maybe try a few cat/dog sweaters/coats/jumpers, etc

  8. The hats are great. The worst thing about having a stash of stuff is knowing where to start, I find.

    1. Actually that is the best part, because once you start you have committed some of it to an idea which rules out a whole lot of other ideas that you might have used it on (and then need to get more stash for ... perpetual motion!)

  9. Great colours in your knitting. Hope F gets through the greys and browns. I just bought some cotton and hope I can knit a little thru the summer heat

  10. Sounds like my yarn/wool basket, I've got some many different bits and pieces of many colours, I have however made blankets for Floki and Tiger which now lay on their cat towers.
