I have been working on emptying the freezer.
Quince, blackberry and rhubarb jam in the making.
There are now about 2 dozen such sealed jars in my cupboard with a variety of jams, all blackberry coloured (10 kg of blackberries goes a long way).
I gave a dozen or more jars away to colleagues before I finished work. Parting gifts.
What can I do with the remaining couple of kilos? Sauce? Chutney/Pickle? (Is there even such a thing as blackberry chutney?)
Green tomatoes next.
Green tomato and blackberry chutney might be interesting!
ReplyDeleteWe go through our food cupboard every so often and empty any old jars of jam... and fill a bucket and feed them to the pigs. They love it! I am sure you could leave some jam outside for the local wildlife?
ReplyDeleteI love blackberries and have never eaten chutney or even know what it is, but I bet it would be good. great way to empty the freezer. who knew pigs eat jam. about painting glass, to do what I did, it must be in procreate, the app for painting, I followed a tutorial found on you tube, if I can find it will send to you.
ReplyDeleteUse some and make a dump cake or crumble I’ve used my frozen fruit that way
ReplyDeleteClafoutis!
ReplyDeleteA very first idea.
DeleteCordial..with added elderberries and spices for a hot winter drink
ReplyDeleteGood idea - elderberries nearly gone here now. I could just drop the blackberries in vodka.
DeleteYour jam looks delicious! I don’t often have the opportunity to use quince in my jams and jellies. I did can peaches and made 10 jars of low sugar jam. I also made a peach pie ~ I had ordered these peaches from Colorado. There are peach trees in New Mexico, but those Colorado ones are large and juicy!
ReplyDeleteI haven't had access to good peaches since we left Greece. Peaches from Naoussa are huge and juicy and fabulous (possibly like your Colorado ones... Naoussa is also a ski region in winter).
DeleteI have heard of a chutney called Autumn Chutney that I believe contains blackberries, but I haven't ever found a recipe for it.
