You might need to turn the volume up. That is a Ruru. It's name means watchful guardian. You are forgiven for hearing, if you conduct your lives in English and pig meat is not haram for you, that the bird is insisting on being served More Pork.
Morepork is what the (English speaking) European settlers named this wee owl.
Cute huh?

Cutest little owl! The goldfinches are energetic- much to do- hurry hurry!
ReplyDeleteI love that owl! I wasn't too keen the first time I stayed in NZ in Te Aroha, in a tin sleepout next to a tree...with resident Ruru..but I loved hearing them this last time in the trees around the Stayplace in Whanganui
ReplyDeleteYes! Morepork morepork. We often heard them at night and my father called back to them. Thanks for the memory
ReplyDeletethe sweet adorable owl sounds like he is saying more pork, over and over.. just like the mocking birds are doing now. we encountered 2 of them on our walk yesterday and both of them made me laugh out loud while walking alone with Beau... I said to both of them, could you find another song? I might try to get the doves in our back yard, like you did the owl
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely melodic call.
ReplyDeleteHari Om
ReplyDeleteSo sweet, the owl... and I biggified the video and saw the finches just fine! YAM xx
I do love owls and their expressions. I don't see many in the wild here.
ReplyDeleteOMCs we have a Havelock here too. It is on our coast.
April is tree pollen month. Most of what is evident is from the pine trees which are very tall and full of pollen
Hugs Cecilia
Very cute.
ReplyDeleteMore Pork. Love it.
ReplyDeleteAnd ruru made me laugh too as it reminded me of a very old non PC joke concerning a Chinese person and a famous Scottish female pop singer.
The Goldfinches should be visiting us soon! I love them!
ReplyDeleteI love these guys, we sometimes hear them here but I use to hear them alot more in Northland.
