Communication technology, as developed by humans has focussed entirely on visual and audio transmission. Had it been designed by dogs it would have focussed on transmitting smells and sounds. Okay visual is useful but you humans have seriously missed a trick on scent transmission.
Had I been able to send it to you, you too could have savoured the aroma of pickled grass (seriously pickled, sozzled in fact).

For the last two days (and into the forseeable future I'm told) we have been making a trip a day to that place by the bridge where we met the smiley pig dog. While I inspect the environment, supervise F with sharp tools, and sometimes gnaw on my beef bone, F has been pitching pickled grass into her trailer.
Fermented grass smell has to be experienced to be truly appreciated. I have been actively discouraged from rolling in it. Nah - don't really want to; it's fairly wet and slimy. I found something dead to roll in instead, but that's a story for another day.
Having dragged it back to the ranch, F has been forking it onto the doink ball pitch (she calls it veg garden). Yuck! She says I will HAVE to use the new arena now.
I wonder what the neighbours make of the well fermented smell.
Cider like haylage aroma. Imagine if we had smell a vision apps on our computers and televisions? Your veggies will love that compost.

ReplyDeleteBeing a country gal myself, I can appreciate the smell you are describing, Scully... and I am delighted for F that she got this stuff for the veg garden/ex pitch. It has the potential to grow mammoth carrots, pumpkins, beans... you just wait! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

ReplyDeleteClearly dogs are a superior species. Everyone knows that but the "thumb" deal sort of ruined everything, didn't it. As one with thumbs I, have not compromised my sense of smell, it is acute-uncomfortably so! Pretty sure your grass for the garden would send me packing.
