Wild

KB Community annual Wild Food Gathering was held last Saturday at the home of a neighbour-ish.  Despite it being a short walk away we had the drive to avoid having Scully walk too and gate-crash the feast.

I felt mean. However her family didn't attend so she should have been at home anyway.

Rules for contribution are simple, if slightly controversial. The food has to be hunted, caught (as in fishing), foraged, grown in your own garden or stolen from a neighbour.  Pumpkin harvest having been plentiful this year, I opted to make a baked fondue in one of our home grown pumpkins.

Said pumpkin was chosen to fit in the Ozpig and while it was baking we poked a big pile of gorse through our new chipper/shredder thing.

Other offerings included Goat Curry, Wild Pork in pies, Venison Lasagne, Cockles mornay in Yorkshire Puddings, Ceviche, fish cakes, fish pie, and a stew based on corn,  Desserts focussed on berry fruit and rhubarb.

Going back for seconds...

Everyone ate well. The weather played along with sunshine and no wind. Conversation flowed. View was fabulous. Hosts were charming.

Chatting with local ceramacist and her OH - great views across the bay in the background.

    1. There was vegetarian food (mine included dairy) and even a vegan option. People even made notes on gluten free. As for community it, perhaps unsurprisingly, turned out to be pretty much the same 10-12 households that supported film nights and book club ... and even my pilates teaching. It amounts to about half the permanent households in the bay. xxx

  6. Did you take notes or ask for some of the recipes? Cockles Mornay in Yorkshire Puddings sounds a great variation on Toad in the Hole

  7. Sounds like a wonderful idea. I think more and more people are going to need community who support one another.

  8. Awesome, sounds like a fun gathering. I've tried goat curry once and it was quite tough.
