Nature Friday - scenes from the bush

Likely a piwakawaka nest - the wee fantailed guy you met at the "lunch box" a week or two ago.

Adventitious roots. Marlborough broadleaf grows this way; starts in the canopy of another tree then throws roots earthwards. This seems, if Scully's interest in it is anything to go by, a popular tree with possums.

Piggy footprint

More adventitious roots - this time around the trunk of a tree fern.

  2. The nest is wonderful. Birds are such clever architects and engineers.
