Comes Round Again

Last year I photographed (and probably posted) photos of the pink flowering cherry trees that brighten my morning walk to the railway station. There is something about trees swathed in little pink tutus that just makes me want to capture them every year. London, at the other end of the train journey is also starting to break out in cherry blossom. This time last year I was running a series of postcards from London for Mr T who was having to get used to the fact that I was away from home a lot more than he had been accustomed to in Greece (and he was no longer going to the office with me). Here, therefore, are a few more spring postcards from London. They no longer build hospitals like they did in 1816, less decorative, less of a statement about the philanthropy of the benevolent (and potentially immeasurably wealthy) benefactor of the piece of prime real estate. This is across the road (onto the south end of Waterloo Bridge) more or less, from the main entrance to Waterloo station

Slipper Limpets

At some stage during Easter our plans to take Mr B senior out for lunch were kyboshed by calling and finding he'd already been whisked away by Mr B's sister. Sis had taken him out in her camper van, with a view to spending a few hours at a beach. We caught up with them in the carpark at East Selsey Beach. You can't see the sea from the carpark. There is a very high earth embankment (higher than a camper van), a playing field (in which a couple of kids were trying to launch kites), an even higher concrete sea defence wall and finally a gravel beach with groynes at regular intervals to try and arrest the eastward migration of the beach material. No one got out of the van. They might as well have stopped in a supermarket carpark in Chichester. A very pink day out with my cycle group. I ain't young myself but I am the only one still in full time employment.

No 15 - Chocolate Beetroot Brownie Chocolate Beetroot Brownie Now this is a brownie worthy of the name. I love beetroot; it’s one of my favourite vegetables. It makes great soup (and not just borscht – perhaps when I’ve finished this baking challenge I’ll just put some of my favourite recipes on here, like beetroot and coconut soup). I preserve it sliced in a vinegar brine and eat loads in cheese sandwiches (my favourite). And it’s easy to grow if your garden has clay soil. I spent a year in Denmark a few years ago working in a restaurant kitchen. Beetroot (rødbeder) is a staple in their food world and I learned preparations and uses for beetroot I never imagined before. Unfortunately for beetroot, there is nothing subtle or secretive about it; cook it and bright pink splotches appear in every part of the kitchen. Still Daily Sketching

Although these examples come from January and February (and I was rather pleased with Tower Bridge because I managed to do that on a blustery, wet day and realized only afterwards that I wasn't wearing my glasses. I am long sighted and have no trouble seeing the bridge, it was the page at the end of my arm that would normally be completely out of focus. Amazing what can be achieved....if you aren't thinking about your limitations) To date I have managed about 6 drawings that I 'quite like', but my all time favorite is a Grenadian fire hydrant 🤔. Really? I did see this piece of advice somewhere recently and I thought I might (re) blog it: Seek not to create beauty but to see beauty in what you create. This is not my composition or initiative. I was simply looking for a tutorial on how to draw something with folds in it and came upon this website - clicked randomly on #132. I like his take on which story you choose to hear.
