Kiwifruit

Everyone knows they should be brown and furry on the outside and bright green inside.... right? ... and tomatoes should be red. Respectively, gold and red kiwifruit (purchased) with next to no fur on the outside; and a yellow plum tomato from the plants we were given at Xmas time.

Domestic

You know you getting domestic (or trying to tame wilderness) when you start building fences.... .... especially relatively pointless ones. Do any other creatures on earth fence their territories? (To be fair, the fence in the background is less pointless - in fact it's whole objective is to deny rabbits and wekas a share of my vegetable production.)

Cheese Tax

Scully's Mum had a finger joint replaced recently and is 6 weeks off work. Scully rides out to meet the school bus in the mornings now (because Mum isn't going to work after dropping off the human sisters), still turns up here for her walk when she gets back from that excursion and wanders back and forth between two houses several times a day - levying the cheese tax here at lunch time, then scarpering home to see whether anything interesting will fall off the lunch counter there. This evening she declined to go home when called upon. We were roasting a leg of lamb in the slow-cooker. There was a lamb tax to pay before she could be convinced to depart this territory. Scully's maternal grandparents are visiting at her place. They have the same first names as F and Mr B, so now she has Grandma F and Aunty F etc. Grandma F seems to be of the view that Scully should spend more time at her own home. Buried it With His Nose

Life and my blog posts are a bit allotment dominated at present. F said her perfect Saturday is cycling in the morning and allotment in the afternoon. I don't get to go cycling and last Saturday they both went - and got back from cycling so late in the afternoon that we only had an hour or two gardening time. My HGV ( link, link and link) has been given an exterior coat of paint - British Racing Green. The inside, however, is displaying the ravages of the tenants having left it parked full of weeds and collecting rain water while we were away, but it still works and Mr B gave it a new wheel as part of the restoration project. We are hardly the Car SOS team but I'm driving again. I do have some suspicions that the accelerator has been governed; I'm sure we never got out of first gear on Saturday. NB: my useless secretary can't find the post where Mr B renamed my rusty old sportscar the HGV, but did find the one where I claimed Donkey and called him my Furrari This ...

Stunned

Pilates apprenticeship is coming along. Here in the Bay I have 7 students who are willing to be practiced on. I have a suspicion my teachers are a bit stunned by that. Each of us was encouraged to try to find at least one potential client. The other apprentices live in Nelson and have access to a fully fitted out studio for teaching practice and apparently still struggle to attract clients. I can explain that easily - no competing interests out here - no other Pilates studios, no yoga classes, no tennis club, no wine bars, no art tours, no... well you name it we probably don't have it, so Pilates classes really are the only show in town. Eight students if you count Mr B who generously volunteered to be a guinea pig and provide constructive feed back as one who has never before practiced Pilates and never seen it in practice. I do recall how confusing it all was when I started learning 15 years ago - 'up' and 'down' have different meanings ...
