Distractions this week: Rhubarb leaf dye. Rhubarb leaf dyed wool - the pullover it was prepared for will feature in a week or two Yarn purchased from a charity shop. Probably enough for two adult pullovers. I stripped the purple and azure apart because the azure on its own was a double knit equivalent. The two strands of purple stripped out got doubled up and the result is below...temporarily modelled by Scully. Joining up with Yam's Saturday Stitches

It's the season for funny weird fungi. A garden in a pool ...and the delightfully named.... Clathrus archeri (Devil's Fingers or Octopus Stinkhorn) No eat any of these.

Fresh Snow on Mt Hutt

Not the best photo. I should have done better on such a clear bright day. My excuse is that despite the sunshine, the wind coming off that snow was chilling (and I had been biking into it, loaded with groceries). The truth is I wasn't wearing my reading glasses so had no idea of the (lack of) quality until much later. Mt Hutt, about 15 miles away, has a ski field. There have been years when skiing continued into December; 2024 might be one of them! We are having a La Niña season, which for us means cooler temperatures. The nights are near to freezing still, but it was probably the reason the rhododendrons had such a spectacular flowering this season this year. Hopefully La Niña will also reduce the risk of a long and stressful fire season.

Holding the World in Place (Eulogy)

Tigger held our world in place. We used to chuckle about the 'you may kiss my paw' pose he favoured when relaxing. He held the garage window in place while he slept on the workbench. He held the cover on the airbag if riding in the front seat of the van (F did used to wonder if this would kill them both). He held down arms, and legs, corners of blankets, newspapers, pieces of sewing, floor mats. He would lie on one thing and extend an arm (usually his right) and hold down something else. He held our hearts. We are bereft. So is everyone who loses a member of their family. What can I say about Tigger to those who knew him only in late life? Tigger was the gentlest of souls, calm, possibly a very zen Buddist, but never timid. He never fought but he never ran away either. On the occasions we did see confrontation he seemed to be calmly encouraging the other away; maybe he had total trust that his 'army' was there to back him up.
