Traps

Messages binged on Friday morning..."can you come out and do the traps in 15 mins?" Scully was pleased. Excited. Giving forth all sorts of vocalizations that generally denote incitement, encouragement and "c'mon let's get going". Only the day before I had reminded Mr B to add a jar of cheap peanut butter to the groceries. My plan was to supplement the bait - which is normally pieces of rabbit, a bait that appeals to stoats - with some peanut butter to encourage rats to explore the traps. Scully is unreasonably fond of the pieces of rotting bait that we throw away as we clear each trap and reset it. She is well enough behaved to understand a firm 'NO' but I suspect her GPS marker clicks at every place there is discarded old bait. She did attempt once or twice to lick the peanut butter smearing-stick when I wasn't paying attention to her manoeuvres Next day on our walk I caught her rolling in something.... "what's that on your fur?" ...

Horses hit

F took me riding in the van twice this week. Exciting. Not exciting. That's a yawn... (and that isn't a bullet hole. Let's call it Birds Hit) I did get myself told off when we stopped at some roadworks traffic controls. I barked at 4 women in the paddock over the fence. When F told me to stop I carried on muttering under my breath until we drove on. They were chasing a little white ball around a big green paddock waving sticks at it. F called them 'golfers'. Later we stopped in the middle of nowhere because F liked the look of this barn.... also boring It's Saturday here but might still be Friday on the eastern side of the date line so we will post some pictures of nature and join the LLB gang celebrating Nature Friday. Speaking of boring - I have supervised the spreading of 3 trailer loads of horses hit on half of the old doink ball pitch. F grows vegetables there now. Honestly could a dog's life get any more tedious than watching vegetables grow where w...

Fortunes?

The coffee dried in the bottom of my cup. What do you make of that Linda? Anyone else want to try their hand at fortune-telling on the coffee dregs? I would love it to be someone rushing in with an acceptable offer on the houses we have for sale in UK. Mr B is trying to sell his late father's in Chichester and I have a townhouse on the market in Louth, Lincolnshire. My father always regarded land as security - own your piece, there's a finite supply of it. Well yes, but....

Nature Friday- Webs

On a misty morning the webs had collected droplets of dew. As I write this we have had 45 hours or relentless rain. It has over-topped the rain gauge 2 mornings in a row (rain gauge is 200mm - 8 inches) and I'm getting worn down by the audio assault of water hitting the aluminium tin can in which I dwell. My land is between 2 and 4 inches deep in water running off the hillsides above me and the electricity has gone off. Scully turned up sometime yesterday and I didn't hear her imprecations to be let in over the drumming of rain on metal. (She whimpers - doesn't bark.) I only discovered her hiding under the caravan when I opened the door to retrieve a bucket. We need a break and this is forecast to go on through tomorrow. src="

Not Fair

Scully here - concrete day came and went. I railed at being consistently restrained and prevented from inspecting the developments. Barbeque assaulted my nostrils around mid-morning and just as that was getting really interesting F got all enthusiastic about going for a WALK. What a dilemma! When I got back it was to discover that the barbeque food had been consumed by the human gannets and the bones had been thrown in a big hole - inaccessible to me. * I tried in vain for three days to work out how to spirit those bones out of that hole. I even barked vigorously at Scotty to get him to help. He just complained to F that I'd gone mad. Mad! I'll show him mad. And to think he used to be my friend when he worked with my huMUM. That build-site has consumed more than it's share of buried bones one way or another. There should be more consideration for poor starving k9s.
