Tiger Beetles

I was attracted by the fruiting bodies on the lichen and then spotted the holes. In UK they would have been the larvae chambers of species of solitary bees - about the same size too. It took some research to learn the are the larvae chambers of Tiger Beetles but the latvae are not sealed in. This internet blogpost (by Ruud Kleinpaste - well known in NZ as "the bug man" following the success of his radio show "Ruud's Awakening") dishes the dirt on Tiger Beetles and their strange tunnels: https://treesthatcount.co.nz/blog/investigate-with-ruud-tiger-beetles Cute little gardens around their doorways.🫠

Sick as a Dog

Where does that expression come from? This is a sick dog for you! (Filmed just after the mackerel incident on Monday.) (Sorry about the shakes I tried to stabilize the video in editing but that just produced flashing fuzzies that looked a bit like a migraine loading so I ditched the so called enhanced version.)

Sunday in Chania

F lay on the cold tile floor for part of the night. I climbed down beside her and purred and purred and purred. Today is breezy. Wind overnight partly opened a plastic folding door that encloses an understair space on the house next door. I found the gap. Mr B spotted me squeezing through. Bother. It might have been interesting. I gave it another try while he was cooking his breakfast but he seems to have latched the door and F spied me trying to wiggle it open again. My humans pulled themselves together by midday and went off for a walk. There was discussion about me joining them, but I had settled down for a siesta by then so I did not have to accompany mad dogs and an Englishman out into the midday sun. They returned smelling of beer and ice-cream and said the Old Town was indeed old, and was pretty much as we have come to expect .... wall to wall holidaymakers, bars, cafes and tavernas cheek by jowl and jam-packed with said holidaymakers. Accidental shadow selfie … That's the cow-farmer look (overalls and tall muck boots). I was actually trying to video Scully tearing along the track and nearly deleted this, but an idea coalesced in my fuddled brain. More shadow selfies. Baking Repost - A Week of Biscuits (Cookies)

Another repost from 2012 A Baking Week I've just had a week at home (some annual leave to use up, and my available funds committed to a trip home to EnZed in April), so I have spent it getting the allotment ready for Spring, cleaning up a topper dinghy and our old escort van which are both for sale, digging up my front lawn which was pure moss and not a great enhancement to the house, and BAKING. . The allotment hasn't needed any digging, the layer of seaweed suppressed the weeds, and a thick mulch on top of some two year composted stable waste has it looking very loved. This year's potato bed is deep under straw and the seed spuds are chitting on the kitchen windowsill, where I have been able to watch over them while doing my daily baking. I dug 7 biscuit recipes off the BBC Good Food website and resolved to make one batch a day.
