Found it in the workshop while working on my van months ago. The photo has been months in draft while I tried to think up a smartarse caption. Imagination has gone AWOL. Perhaps you guys can have a go.

Mailboxes

Mailboxes are a thing in all of New Zealand, but in rural parts of the country you can both send post from and receive mail to your mailbox. You put a flag up on the side if sending and it let's the postie know to stop and collect the contents. Mailboxes are an opportunity to be artistic, creative, avant garde, or 'send messages' in ways considerably less conservatively than folks tend to build and decorate houses. Hate a mailbox and it is relatively easy and low cost to change. Even in town post never comes through a slit in your door. Rural mailboxes gathered at the end of the public road. PO Box & Rox

To everyone who asked - no mail box here. There nearest delivery point is 10 km (6 miles) away (that line of mailboxes) so we will get a Post Office box in Havelock. Mail (including parcels) will be secure there until we get into town to collect it. Meanwhile back on the ranch the sun has been shining and although it's a shame to waste it, I am struggling to find the motivation to start putting up spouting brackets. It's nice just sitting in the sun drinking coffee and wandering about contemplating the shape of the landscaping plans. Veg garden has been mapped out and I've seen about a dozen bales of rotting haylage bulldozed into a pile beside the bridge approach by SH6 (20km from here). I did 'bold' one day and asked a farmer if it was his. Answer "no" but he did give me a name. I've done a little detective legwork and now have a description of the name's house but have yet to actually locate it. I shall persist. Not many people value 12 cubic ...

Fullback

Procrastination is an art form. I rolled weedmat onto a path to be. You will note the wee dog immediately acknowledged the thermal value of the black weed suppressing stuff. I wandered about kicking clumps of gorse and making coffee last as long as possible. There was the pointless exercise of pleating the weedmat to make it follow a curve. We walked a bit and scavenged some planks off the beach... Oh dammit I'll just have to get on with this. There's no point wishing someone else would just waft in and whizz bang it's all done. Measure. Measure again. 5mm drop over 10 metres of distance said the instructions. I made it 10mm over 8.5 metres, pulled a string really tight marked the positions a half metre apart and drilled and screwed the brackets. 3 screws each. I nearly went cross-eyed trying to get them precisely on the mark. With measurements like those instructions (less than a quarter inch of fall over about 33 feet) a half a millimeter migh...
