Jacket

Scully here - Not funny. My Mum laughed and laughed when they told her they'd put a life-jacket on me. It made my legs go limp. We tried it again by the sea and I refused to go in and get it wet. I did however relent when they chucked 'puppy'* in the pond by the boat trailer park. It sort of makes my tail stick up out of the water, but it makes having a good shake-off a bit difficult. F says I have to wear it if I'm on the paddleboard or on the new kayak thing they have bought. That hasn't got here yet.... Yours Scully * Puppy is a much loved (and much chased and juggled) tennis ball. Puppy also gets cuddled when Scully curls up on her bunk.

Little Girl

La Niña. ENSO: https://niwa.co.nz/climate-and-weather/el-nino-and-la-nina Forecasts have predicted La Niña weather events affecting NZ from November 2025 to January 2026. Here in the Marlborough Sounds that appears to have meant a lot of wind and strong winds from easterly directions (not normal here), lower temperatures and lots of rain. Our veg garden is thriving on that rain. More sunshine hours would however be welcome - by both me and the veg. Yesterday, while we were out on the weekly errands, strong winds toppled the tiny metal utility shed by the caravan and broke a caravan window. Fortunately our neighbours were home and saved the situation - leaving us with only some glass to clear up and the job of making a temporary waterproof cover for the window when we got home. Today it is raining heavily and forecast to continue thus until Friday. Cabin fever. Six months ago (end of June) Scully and I were trapped indoors by a 36 hour rain event that dropped near...

Grim

Mr B had some yacht maintenance work to do and I went along to be the apprentice (lunch box carrier). Portsmouth's Spinnaker Tower. Grim Add the sound of frapping halyards, some whistling and howling of wind tearing through rigging, and the clatter of rain battering down on decks and spray hoods and you have the complete day out at Gosport Marina. Plans to rivet the foil on the forestay were put on hold (for a sailor, Mr B is remarkably averse to getting wet) and he tackled some electrical stuff indoors instead. I sketched in my daily challenge book, drank coffee, and made helpful suggestions on how to get some wiring into inaccessible places. It never ceases to amaze me that people who build and fit out houses, boats, and vans regularly don't think about how you might fix or maintain in future some things they have now hidden behind glued in panels (or between ceiling and upstairs floor); plumbing and wiring usually.

Hijacked

Mum wants to hijack my blog to publish a knitting pattern she has designed and written. I shouldn't let her do it but she isn't very tech savvy and she doesn't know how else to link it to her Ravelry account. She no longer has a blog of her own (deleted her old email address and locked herself out of the blog - stupid woman - but you can see the remnants of it here Mum's Baking Blog ) I'm making this as difficult as possible for her - sleeping with my face on the lefthand end of her keyboard. She has SHIFT and CTL on the other end but I have control of the letter A and my chin on the Caps Lock. She is very persistent, but she still hasn't worked out how to make it into a downloadable .pdf ( edit - oh yes she has Mr T -a lot can happen in 24 hours!) Oh alright then put it here but I disown the content from here on (unless there is money for catfood in it.......) pattern as .pdf file Koko Jacket and Hat Materials: 2 skeins Lanas Stop Norman...

Light at the End of the Tunnel

In the years that we lived in UK I got the ride in the car from time to time. We would go down the drive and turn left and left.... That way we would go to Hayling Island (about 10 miles - 16 km) Or we would go to Chichester (about 20miles /32km) Or Mr B and I would go to the railway station to pick up F on a Friday night Sometimes we went right at the bottom of the drive and took some Hampshire backroads to Chichester - but it was still about 20 miles, just considerably more scenic. One day about 3 and half years ago we went left right at the bottom of the drive and I knew immediately that we were going the wrong way. I studied the houses, the signs at the intersections, the roundabouts, the services stations - all new but I might need references for getting back. Up until then I knew exactly when we were approaching home but we were in scary new territory now. After a while I was on information overload and decided the best thing would be to sleep, on F's knees....
