Trailer

I need a trailer to move a water tank. Bro has 7 trailers; 8 if you count the horse box. And 3 boats on trailers. You kind of have to ask yourself why. He does however hire out the three biggest ones. The horse box has been promised a makeover and then to be sold. I've done the fibreglass bits. The metal bits are Bro's department. Of the remaining 4 trailers, one is a frame and wheels only and destined to become a tipping trailer. There was a 4' x 8' one that was to become mine (big enough to transport a motorbike) but the short version of its demise is that it turned out to be just too rusty to restore. 1 down. The two remaining 4' x 6' trailers got dragged out on Sunday, cleared of their loads of scrap metal, lifted on the forklift and inspected below and Bro chose for me the one that he said needed least work. I think he meant 'work by him' - welding stuff. It used to be Dad's trailer. I suspect that went onto the scales when these two were weig...

Movers

Yesterday the whole family here got involved in the house move for the family of the lad who spends so much time out here. They aren't the best organized bunch and started the day with nothing packed. They have been living in emergency accommodation for several weeks now, with the bulk of their possessions in one of our sheds. That at least was packed. Bro and nephew put half of it on the big tandem trailer and we all waited for a call from SiL to say they were in the new place and the doors were open. 1700 came and went.... In the end we drove to the new place, where nephew and I unloaded furniture onto the patio whole Bro went and fetched the keys. The moving family had decided they needed to stop packing and make and eat a formal meal. SiL was with them tearing her hair out trying to get their 'emergency' belongings into my van and get them out of the motel before they incurred another night charge. Every Friday during school terms the conference room in the old office here is used for a social and sewing gathering of refugee women. Everything has been donated - sewing machines and overlockets, fabrics, thread, irons and ironing boards, needles, pins, zips and buttons. Every time I open a drawer or cupboard I find more 'resources'. The instructors put the class into recess this term while they spent their Fridays sorting and tidying all these resources and discarding anything unlikely to ever get used (that included a lot of curtains and sample swatches). On one of their working-bee days I got dragged in to service a sewing machine. I have an undeserved reputation in that field because I fluked some repairs on a couple of overlockers. I noticed that there were bins of discarded fabrics clearly marked RUBBISH. A few days later I was encouraging a 14 yr old girl to learn to sew and make some cushion covers, so we raided the bins.
