0500 Monday morning a week ago Bro and I set off, heading north, in our late father's Nissan Patrol (gift to himself when he retired from farming 32 years ago - currently 350,000 km on the clock and Bro is going for a million. I calculate that at this rate he will have to drive it for another 64 years....) Big lazy Diesel that will tow anything - just not fast. Good thing as we were dragging a tandem trailer loaded with a one and half tonne digger, and a chisel plough. The plough had been sold and Bro was being paid to deliver it to a valley just out of Blenheim. That paid for our trip north. Plough unloaded we continued up to the Sounds, to Kaiuma Bay. The last bit of that trip is 16 km of gravel road and corrugations. We juddered our way up hills and arrived coated in a thick layer of dust. Having been hassled about the gorse regrowth on my land, I expected the worst, and arrived to find 6 foot high bracken, lots of brambles (a kind of blackberry with little or no fr...

Campsite

Good thing the neighbours have a flat roof. One CAN see the sea - just Campsite. Who doesn't take their digger camping?😉

Green Velour

Green Velour seems to be a popular decorating element around here. When Bro acquired it, my van had green velour seats (went with the teenage sound system and mag wheels). Bro claimed those (and the mag wheels) for his van and ditched the worn out grey plastic. I'm not sorry about the seats, but did need to pull seats which has been 'exposed to elements' out of donor van only to find that they too had developed a patina of green velour. Fortunately they were dry even if somewhat enhanced on the outside surfaces. On Friday I found myself engaged in the use of a hot water power washer and instructed to clean the green velour off a client boat that had been brought in for repairs. "Call it his free bonus" said Bro cheerfully while I paddled about in blasts of reflected hot spray and spat out flying lumps of lichen and moss. Boat cleaned off, my real task for the day was to blast paint and green velour off the horse box that has languished out the back since SiL reti...

Nature Friday

Somes roses for Rosie this week These ones are outside the workshop. And some flowers from around, and in, the fish pond.

This is Havelock.

Population about 600 (people) A town where someone puts fresh flowers in the public toilets A town where you can stand in the middle of the main street at rush hour. Self styled Greenshell Mussel capital of the world, there is a lot of mussel themed decor... engraved into the concrete sidewalks... Adorning various buildings... ....including the police station.... Nice to think even the police have a sense of humour (or are invested in local identity). Real greeshell mussels for sale in the grocery shop This town has two pubs ...and one grocery store.... (Priorities.🤔) ....a museum (every town in NZ has one of those - most are devoted to 'Early Settlers')... ...and a variey of dwellings from early settlers to architectural modern I'll leave you with a couple more shots from the main street, the Town Hall and the fishing tackle shop
